World's Best Barista Calls Chicago Home

Better than competitors from 52 countries

If your barista sensed that you needed an extra shot of espresso this morning, he may be one of the best. But is he the best in the world?

He just might be, because the world's best barista is located right here in Chicago.

Michael Phillips from the Intelligentsia Coffee House won the 11th annual World Barista Championship in London last month.

Beating out baristas from 52 other countries, Phillips is the first American to earn the title.

This big shot in the coffee scene isn't new to competitive action. He's been the barista champion in the U.S. for the past two years, and placed third in the world last year, reports the Sun-Times.

But this year, Phillips took first with his 15-minute presentation in which he made an espresso, a cappuccino, and a drink of his own creation all set to music.

His java's got jive!
