Woman's Body Found in Edgewater Alley

Police look into whether woman fell from nearby building

A tow truck driver discovered the body of a young woman in a North Side alley early  Monday.

The driver found the woman at about 3:20 a.m. in an alley in the 5200 block of North Kenmore Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood.

The death was classified as non-criminal and a "possible suicide" pending autopsy results, according to police News Affairs. An autopsy will be performed later Monday.

A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said the body belongs to a still-unidentified white woman, possibly in her early 20s and their office remained at the scene at 6 a.m.

A worker from one of the nearby buildings recognized her and police found that she lived on the third floor of a building nearby with a Sheridan Road address, police said.

Though the cause of death was not yet known, police were probing the possibility that the woman fell from a building nearby.

Her apartment showed no signs of forced entry and it did not appear to be ransacked. Police were “not ruling anything out’’ in the cause of her death, including falling from height.

Police are canvassing the neighborhood and are inside the surroundings buildings of 5:30 a.m., according to police.

Lincoln District Police Sgt. Patrick Barker said Belmont Area detectives are conducting a death investigation.
