Woman With Disabilities, 3 Dogs Die in Rockford House Fire

Officials believe the woman had disabilities that prevented her from escaping the home

Authorities say a 56-year-old woman with disabilities and her three small dogs have died in a Rockford house fire.

The Rockford Register Star reports firefighters were called to the house just before 3 a.m. Friday and found smoke coming from windows and eaves. Firefighters searched the home and found the woman, Lynn C. Dorgan, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Fire prevention coordinator Timothy Morris says Dorgan had some disabilities that prevented her from being able to escape quickly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Morris says it appears accidental. The home had working smoke detectors.
