1 in Custody After Woman Stabbed While Walking With Child in Suburban Forest Preserve

The woman suffered "serious stab wounds" when she was attacked at an Ingleside preserve, authorities say

One person was in custody on Monday evening after a woman was stabbed while walking with her young child at a suburban forest preserve, police said. 

According to authorities, the woman was walking with her child on a bike path in the Grant Woods Forest Preserve in suburban Ingleside at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday when she was stabbed by an unknown woman. 

The suspect approached the victim and stabbed her multiple times, police said. 

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says the victim suffered “serious stab wounds,” but was reported to have non-life threatening injuries. Her son, who was described as being under the age of 10, was not injured. 

The offender initially fled the scene, but was taken into custody for questioning on Monday evening.

Lake County Forest Preserve Police were investigating the incident in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office, according to officials. The stabbing was not believed to be a domestic incident.
