Woman Stabbed Walking to Red Line Near DePaul's Campus

Police issued a safety alert this week after a woman was stabbed while walking to a Chicago Transit Authority Red Line station near DePaul University's campus.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday on Webster Avenue near Racine Avenue where a 21-year-old woman said she was grabbed by a man while walking to the Fullerton CTA station.

The woman told police the man grabbed her by the neck in a choke hold and stabbed her repeatedly in the upper body.

Police said the man never spoke to the woman, who was unaware she was being followed.

The man was described as being about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and was wearing all black with a hoody and baggy black pants, police said.

Authorities warned residents to alert their neighbors and call 911 to report suspicious people, vehicles or activity in their neighborhood. They also said parents should avoid letting children walk or play alone and to identify "safe havens" along their routes to school and home.

Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to call Area Central Detectives at (312) 747-8380.
