A woman was shot and killed late Wednesday inside a Walgreens on Chicago's Northwest Side, according to police.
Authorities said the shooting took place at around 11:30 p.m. at the store in the 4800 block of West Fullerton Avenue in the city's Cragin neighborhood.
The woman was inside the store when a man confronted her, according to police, who said their verbal altercation turned physical and the man opened fire, shooting her in the head.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was pronounced dead, officials said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality and further details, including her identity, were not available.
The man fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV, according to police, who said he was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. Police said Thursday morning that a person of interest was identified for questioning, but is not currently in custody, according to authorities.
"We are committed to providing a safe environment for our employees, patients and customers in the communities we serve," Walgreens said in a statement. "We are cooperating with Chicago police in its investigation and refer you to the police for any additional comment."
The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing, according to police.
