Woman Shot in the Face With an Arrow

Victim's identity isn't being released

That's gotta sting.

Authorities in northern Illinois say a 64-year-old man shot a woman in the face with an arrow.

Gary Aspengren was arrested in the town of Cortland on Monday evening after he allegedly used his bow and arrow to end an argument.  He's been charged with aggravated battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated domestic battery and armed violence.

The victim, whose identity is not being released, told police at the hospital that Aspengren stepped out of his house late Monday afternoon and shot her with the crossbow while she was sitting in her car in his driveway. The bolt broke a car window and struck her in the cheek.

She was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb and later transferred to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

This is the second arrow related crime in as many months. A few weeks ago NBCChicago reported on a cat that was shot in the head with an arrow, but lived.
