Woman Shot in Head Fleeing Possible Robbery Attempt

A woman was shot in the head while fleeing a possible robbery attempt early Wednesday on Chicago's South Side, according to police.

Authorities said the incident took place at around 2 a.m. in the 7300 block of South Union Avenue in the city's Englewood neighborhood.

A 31-year-old woman was driving with two passengers in her car when they stopped to talk to an unknown male, according to police, who said she "felt they were about to be robbed" and drove away.

The man then opened fire on her vehicle as it sped away, striking her in the head, officials said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, according to police.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as authorities continue to investigate.
