Woman Shot and Killed During Traffic Altercation on South Side: Police

According to police, witnesses at the scene said the shooting happened during a “traffic altercation"

A woman was shot and killed during a traffic altercation on Chicago’s South Side Tuesday night, police said.

The 24-year-old woman was shot in the head in the 7400 block of South Yates in the city's South Shore neighborhood just before midnight. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, but was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning.

According to police, witnesses at the scene said the shooting happened during a “traffic altercation.”

No one was in custody as of Wednesday morning but authorities said the shooting was being investigated as a homicide.

A neighbor said one of the cars involved crashed into several vehicles on the street. Footage from the scene showed at least four cars parked on the block with heavy damage. Police could not immediately confirm if the damage was done in the incident.

"I witnessed a vehicle that had struck all the cars and they said someone had gotten shot in the head," said neighbor Tony Blair.

A second neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous for safety concerns, heard screams and went outside.

"Me and my neighbors were stuck, surrounded with yellow tape," the resident said.
