A woman was walking in the Lake View East neighborhood when a man allegedly fired shots at the victim early Saturday morning, police said.
According to authorities, the 27-year-old woman was walking in the 600 block of W. Surf St. at around 1:28 a.m., when a suspect on a bicycle behind her fired shots, striking the victim.
The woman sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of the chest and was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in stable condition, police said. The offender fled eastbound on Surf Street.
Officials said as of Saturday afternoon, no one was in custody.
The incident remains under investigation.
