Woman Robbed, Assaulted Near DePaul: Cops

Police say the woman was robbed in broad daylight then sexually assaulted at gunpoint

A woman is recovering at an area hospital Thursday morning after being robbed and sexually assaulted Wednesday in broad daylight.

Police say the woman was robbed at about 2:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Wilton in the Lincoln Park neighborhood near DePaul University.

She told officers she was then sexually assaulted at gunpoint inside her apartment. The attacker was wearing a ski mask, as well as a dark shirt, jeans, black gym shoes and gloves, police said Thursday.

The man ran away from the apartment, police said, and no arrests have been made.

Detectives spent three hours canvassing the block Wednesday, interviewing neighbors and looking for witnesses and clues that could lead them to a suspect.

DePaul students say they're unnerved by the assault and will keep an extra eye out for anything suspicious.

"It's pretty scary as a college student," said Madeline Corson, who lives in Lincoln Park. "I'm always really aware, especially at night. I usually keep my purse in front and if I'm walking alone, I'll definitely have my keys in my hand."
