A woman was shot to death while holding a baby Tuesday in Austin on the West Side.
The 24-year-old was talking with two acquaintances outside a car in the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue while holding a one-year-old girl, Chicago police said.
Two males drove up in a silver Chevy Impala, got out of the car and shot the woman in the upper body about 8:50 a.m., police said.
During the incident, she tried to hide behind other parked vehicles while shielding the baby, police said. Someone who drove by took her to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said.
She was pronounced dead at 9:25 a.m. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but has not released her name.
The baby wasn’t injured and is with other family members, police said. Officials didn’t say if the baby was related to the 24-year-old.
Police are investigating the shooting as a targeted attack and have found the silver Chevy Impala connected to the shooting.
