Woman Killed in South Side Crash

A 37-year-old woman was killed in a crash on Chicago’s South Side early Friday morning.

Police said the crash occurred just before 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Garfield and LaSalle.

A Dodge vehicle hit a fire hydrant at a high rate of speed, according to authorities.

Both the woman and a 25-year-old man who was driving the vehicle were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. The woman was pronounced dead and the man was listed in extremely critical condition.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death but police said an investigation was ongoing.

Further details surrounding what caused the crash were not immediately available. The intersection was shut down for several hours.
