80-Year-Old Woman in Critical Condition After McHenry County Crash

The woman allegedly didn't stop at an intersection, crashing into another vehicle

Three people were injured, including an 80-year-old woman, in a two-car crash Friday afternoon in unincorporated Alden Township in suburban McHenry County.

According to sheriff’s deputies, that woman, who is from suburban Harvard, is in critical condition after the accident, which took place at the intersection of Alden Road and Thayer Road.

Just before 4 p.m., firefighters responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection. An investigation indicated that a 2010 Chevrolet HHR, driven by the 80-year-old victim, was traveling westbound on Thayer Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection. The vehicle then crashed into a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander, which was traveling southbound on Alden Road.

The 80-year-old woman was airlifted to a Rockford hospital, where she is listed in critical condition. A passenger in the Chevrolet, a 58-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 55-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Police are still investigating the crash, and no citations have been issued, nor have any charges been filed. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and all three victims were wearing seatbelts.
