Woman, Good Samaritan Injured While Changing Flat Tire After Car Hits Them on Highway

A 23-year-old driver and a good Samaritan who stopped to help her change a flat tire were injured Thursday night after a car ran off Interstate 65 in Northwest Indiana, hit them and fled the scene.

Police allege that 31-year-old Danielle Nicole Stovall, who was driving a 1995 purple Dodge Intrepid, ran her vehicle off the roadway just south of the ramp to US 231.

A witness told police they saw the purple Dodge vehicle sideswipe 23-year-old Megan Nilson, of Michigan City and 60-year-old Dennis Wagner, of San Pierre, who had stopped to help Nilson change a flat tire. The Dodge vehicle then fled the scene.

The witness followed the driver to a local motel and called police.

Stovall was taken into custody and brough to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point along with Nilson and Wagner. Police said the three suffered in non-life threatening injuries.

Stovall was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and operating while intoxicated. Police said impairment may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
