It was an unusual morning for commuters on the CTA’s Red Line, as a woman gave birth to twins at the Roosevelt station.
According to a press release issued by the CTA, the woman gave birth to the twins at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the mezzanine area of the station, which is located in the city’s South Loop neighborhood. Both mom and the twin girls are doing well, according to the agency.
The Chicago Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted with the delivery of the girls, according to the Chicago Sun-Times and the CTA.
The woman and her newborn babies were all taken to Mercy Hospital, where they are in good condition.
