Woman Fatally Shot in Belmont Gardens

The woman, who police said was a documented gang member, was shot in the chest.

A 24-year-old was killed in a shooting Friday evening in Chicago’s Belmont Gardens neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The woman was in a parked car when an unknown offender in another car opened fire arpund 5:50 p.m., according to police. The woman, who police said was a documented gang member, was hit in the chest.

She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Keith Battaglia delivers pizza nearby in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood often.

"It makes you think twice especially doing something like this, that's why you have to be aware of surroundings and that's what I do," Battaglia said.

Christopher Centeno says he's worried his family in the area will get caught in the crossfire.

"That means there are gang members around here and I live 3 blocks away so it's kinda scary," Centeno said.

Police reviewed security cameras perched near the corner market for clues. Officers say this was likely a targeted shooting.
