Woman, 86, Injured During Oak Lawn Home Invasion

A person attacked an 86-year-old woman after he broke into her home in southwest suburban Oak Lawn early Thursday.

The woman heard a loud noise at her door in the 9000 block of 51st Avenue about 1:30 a.m. and when she checked, she found the door was damaged, according to a statement from Oak Lawn police.

A few minutes later, she heard another noise and a male entered the home, police said. The male physically assaulted her and stole several items before fleeing.

The woman, who was unable to contact police for more than an hour, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said it is unclear if senior citizens are being targeted, but seniors who live alone are advised to take proper precautions for their security.

Residents are also advised to keep phones near their beds, use dead bolts and motion sensor lighting, and contact police immediately if they see anyone suspicious.

Anyone with information is asked to call Oak Lawn police at (708) 422-8292.
