Wisconsin Man From Black Earth Plotted to Kill Someone With Radioactive Material: FBI

A Wisconsin man attempted to buy radioactive material online with the intent to kill someone, federal authorities said Wednesday.

Jeremy Ryan, 30, of the Town of Madison, was charged with attempted possession of radioactive material to cause death.

Ryan attempted to buy the “lethal dose of radioactive substance” in March and again in October, according to the FBI. He was arrested on Oct. 24 without incident in the 700 block of Mills Street in Black Earth, Wisc. A search warrant was executed by FBI Chicago’s Hazardous Evidence Response Team at his residence in the 300 block of Munn Road in Madison, Wisc. Authorities said there is no danger to the public in relation to the search warrant.

The charge of attempted possession of radioactive material with intent to cause death has a maximum penalty of life in prison.

It was unclear what the material Ryan is alleged to have attempted to buy was.
