Wintry Weather Set to Impact Chicago, Surrounding Areas

Winter Weather Advisories will remain in effect on Sunday as snow continues to impact the region.

Three counties in Illinois are under advisories, as McHenry, Lake, and Cook counties deal with snowfall. Forecasts show that between two to three inches of snow could fall by the end of the day Sunday, but localized totals could be higher as lake-effect snow could develop during the day.

In Indiana, both Lake and Porter counties are under Winter Weather Advisories until 6 p.m. Sunday, and those areas could also see two to three inches of snow, with lake-effect snow potentially dumping more on the region.

In addition to the snow, gusty winds could impact travel in those areas, with blowing snow a possibility in open regions.

Finally, cold temperatures are on tap, as the mercury will fall throughout the day.

In areas not impacted by Winter Weather Advisories, cold temperatures will remain in the forecast, and those areas could see an inch or two of snow by the time the system moves through.

According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, the next chance of snow will come on Monday afternoon and into Tuesday morning, and another round of snow could hit the region as soon as late Wednesday.
