A Winter Weather Advisory in effect for multiple Chicago-area counties early Monday morning came to an end, though snow remained in the forecast for the day across the area.

The advisory, which took effect during the early morning hours and continued until 9 a.m. in Lake, McHenry and Boone Counties, warned of slippery road conditions during the morning commute and "expected reduced visibilities at times."

Snow was expected to make for hazardous travel conditions during the morning rush hour, with accumulations of up to 2 inches possible, according to the advisory. That number was exceeded for some counties.

Across the area light to moderate snow showers were set to continue through much of the day. Some of those showers will be met with wind gusts of up to 30 mph, which could reduce visibilities.

Still, the remaining snow showers are not expected to leave additional accumulations.

Tuesday looks to stay dry as temps warm into the mid-40s but the chance for rain returns Wednesday and Thursday.
