Potentially Heavy Snow Could Impact Holiday Travel Sunday

The potential for heavy snow on Sunday has led the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Watch for several counties in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

The watch will take effect on Sunday morning in Kenosha County in southeastern Wisconsin, and will also be in effect in McHenry and DeKalb Counties in northern Illinois through Sunday evening.

Heavy snow is possible throughout the region, with anywhere from 3 to 6 inches forecasted in Wisconsin and potentially in excess of six inches in some parts of northern Illinois. The heaviest band of snow could hit in a number of different areas, including the Chicago-area, but forecast models are still computing where that could take place, according to NWS.

High winds of 25 to 35 MPH are also in the forecast, making for potentially hazardous driving conditions as people drive back home after the Thanksgiving weekend.

According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, rain is expected beginning on Friday evening and will continue into Saturday. That rain will eventually turn to snow as colder air moves in on Sunday, and will make for potentially hazardous travel conditions.
