If It Floats Like a Duck…

Rubber Ducky Derby benefits Special Olympics Illinois

All it took was a few bucks to put a duck in the fourth annual Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby race benefiting athletes of the Special Olympics Illinois.

Over 30,000 duckies were dumped in the Chicago River on Thursday, with each donor in suspense that maybe theirs would win!

Crowds surrounded the Chicago River all the way from the Columbus Drive Bridge to Michigan Bridge to watch the derby.

Boaters used a spray gun to keep most duckies on track, but occasionally some would part ways.

And while they all wished they could be winners, only six were chosen.  The grand prize winner received a seven night trip for two to RIU Palace Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

Special Olympics Illinois provides leadership training and year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. In its 41st year, Special Olympics Illinois serves more than 22,000 athletes across the entire state of Illinois.
