It may be a sunny day across much of the Chicago-area, but high wind gusts have been reported throughout the area, causing downed tree limbs and chilly temperatures.
The highest-wind gust recorded at O’Hare International Airport topped the scales at 49 MPH, according to the National Weather Service’s local storm report. That was the top wind gust recorded in the area so far, according to the NWS.
Midway International Airport came close to topping O’Hare, with a 48 MPH gust, and the Chicago Executive Airport in suburban Wheeling reported gusts of 47 MPH in connection with the ongoing weather event.
At Chicago’s Wrigley Field, the wind played tricks on the Arizona Diamondbacks, causing several fly balls to drop un-caught during the team’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Kris Bryant took full advantage, notching a pair of RBI thanks to the swirling winds as the Cubs picked up their fourth straight victory.
