Storms Prompt Tornado Watches, Warnings For Multiple Illinois Counties Wednesday Night

Severe weather moved through parts of the Chicago area Wednesday night, prompting tornado watches and warnings for several counties. 

Among the counties under a Tornado Watch during the late evening hours were McHenry, Kendall, Lake, Kane, Boone, Lee, Ogle and Winnebago as well as Kenosha County in Wisconsin.

A Tornado Warning was issued for northwestern McHenry counties as well as southeastern Winnebago and southern Boone counties.

Departure delays ranged between 16 and 30 minutes at O'Hare due to wind at about midnight. Inbound flights were also delayed at their origin an average of two hours and 30 minutes due to wind, according to FlightAware.com.

Much of the Chicago area was under a Wind Advisory into the evening hours.

Wednesday started off with partly sunny skies and warm and humid conditions as highs reached into the mid- to upper-80s.

Warmer temperatures will linger into Thursday with highs still near 80, but those temps are expected to fall quickly during the late afternoon and evening hours.

By Friday, highs will have dipped back into the low-60s and upper-50s in most areas.

The weekend will see another chance for rain as temps stay in the 60s and 70s.
