West suburbanites had a bit of a rude awakening Saturday morning when they discovered overnight rain left their cars filthy.
Here’s what happened, according to NBC 5’s Alicia Roman: Strong wind gusts on Friday blew dust from farm fields to the southwest up into the atmosphere.
When the rain started pouring, it dragged the dust down with it, blanketing the area in filth.
This dusty rain “made it look like our cars had a case of the measles,” NBC 5’s Dick Johnson said.
The inconvenience congested local car washes with longer-than-normal lines as residents sought to clean up the mess.
The Chicago-area's forecast looks mostly rain-free for the next couple days. The next chance for showers comes Wednesday with a few spotty showers likely as well as a few isolated storms possible in some areas.
Heavier rain and storms are likely overnight Wednesday.
