Whoopie Goldberg Speaks at HIV/AIDS Event

Actress and talk show host headlines fundraiser for Chicago House

Actress and talk show host Whoopie Goldberg was in Chicago on Friday, speaking at a fundraising event for Chicago House, an organization which supports homeless men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS.

The keynote address at the Palmer House Hilton was part of the organization's third annual speaker series.

She spoke of the work Chicago House performed and lamented that an organization like it wasn't around when HIV and AIDS first entered her world.

"I wish there had been a Chicago House in the beginning because the dignity that my friends needed and died without should never have happened," she told the audience of more than 1,000 people.

Past speakers include President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
