The city's first 24-hour emergency pet care clinic to open Sept. 1

Breathe easy, pet owners.

A 24-hour medical care facility for pets will soon be ope in Avondale. The Animal Emergency & Treatment Center (AETC) will open it's doors at 3927 W. Belmont Ave. Sept. 1.

The 10,000-square-foot office will be the city's first 'round-the-clock pet care clinic, open 365 days a year. The AETC is adding to its north suburban Grayslake location, which opened in 1994, bringing its services to Chicago's 1.6 million pets.

Currently, city pet owners have had to transport their sick animals from after-hours emergency facilities to their regular veterinarian's offices each morning, but the AETC will provide ongoing, uninterrupted hospitalization and treatment for your ailing pooch or kitty.

In addition to emergency medical attention, the AETC provides specialty referral services, critical care and an innovative volunteer pet blood donation program.

We're envisioning a nighttime drama based on this concept to come along soon, much like a pet-friendly "ER." No word on if there's a George Clooney lookalike on staff, however.
