White Sox Make Roster Move, Placing Jon Jay on Injured List

Jay is dealing with a right hip issue, the team said

The Chicago White Sox have made a roster move Friday, placing outfielder Jon Jay on the 10-day injured list.

Jay, who is batting .267 with the White Sox this season, is dealing with a right hip strain, and according to manager Rick Renteria, he will undergo season-ending surgery on the injury.

The White Sox recalled outfielder Ryan Cordell from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Jay on the active roster. Cordell has six home runs and 20 RBI’s in 194 at-bats for the White Sox this season, and has scored 18 runs in 81 total games played.

The White Sox will next take the field on Friday evening in an interleague series against the Atlanta Braves. Iván Nova will take the hill against Braves hurler Max Fried, who has a 14-4 record this season.
