The Chicago White Sox could potentially be big players in free agency as they look to bolster their squad, and they cleared some room on their 40-man roster Monday by outrighting four players to Triple-A Charlotte.

The team announced that they have assigned pitcher Manny Bañuelos, outfielder Ryan Cordell, and infielders Ryan Goins and Matt Skole to their Triple-A club, and as a result all four will become minor league free agents at the conclusion of the 2019 World Series.

The roster moves give the White Sox a total of five spots on their 40-man roster, freeing them up to make moves when free agency begins five days after the conclusion of the Fall Classic.

Bañuelos appeared in 16 games for the White Sox during the 2019 season, and made eight starts for the South Siders. He posted a 6.93 ERA and a 3-4 record in those games, striking out 44 batters and giving up 60 hits and 33 walks in 50.2 innings of work.

Cordell hit seven home runs and drove in 24 RBI’s in 247 plate appearances for the White Sox, batting .221 and striking out 69 times during his second season with the club.

After stints in Toronto and Kansas City, Goins played 52 games for the White Sox during the 2019 season, batting .250 with two home runs and 10 RBI’s in 163 plate appearances. He had a .333 on-base percentage in those games, and collected nine extra base hits.

Skole saw limited action with the White Sox, driving in six RBI’s in 80 plate appearances. His big problem was strikeouts, as he fanned 31 times in just 72 at-bats, posting a .208 batting average.
