Weekend Warm-Up Predicted for Chicago Area

If you've been putting off decorating the outside of your house for the holidays, this may be the weekend to get it done.

NBC 5 weather models show a big warm-up on the way with temperatures reaching 10 degrees above average.

Friday evening temperatures are expected to hold steady in the mid-30s overnight before warm air advection produces temps well into the 40s on Saturday morning. If the Chicago area sees more sunshine than clouds on Saturday, we could warm up to the low- to mid-50s.

The mild air should last into Sunday morning before a strong cold front sweeps across the metro area, shifting winds and causing temps to fall.

Some showers are likely along the front as it passes, but southern sections and northwest Indiana likely will be the most affected.

It’s back to reality on Monday as unseasonably cold temps return with highs in the 20s.

Early models show cold air easing somewhat into mid-week.
