*High Wind Warning issued for entire Chicago area from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday
Hold onto your hats. Chicago's weekend weather forecast gives literal meaning to the term "windy city."
Expect extremely windy conditions on Sunday across the Chicago area with sustained winds of 35 mph and gusts up to 50 to 60 MPH. The high winds are expected to start overnight Saturday and last through Sunday night.
Those gusts have prompted a High Wind Watch, which will take effect late Saturday night in all the counties of northern Illinois, according to the National Weather Service.
The cold front that will cause all that wind will be preceded by a Winter Weather Advisory, which begins at midnight Friday night and will run through 9 a.m. Saturday for McHenry County and areas west of the county due to the threat of freezing rain. The area could see ice accretion totals of one- or two-tenths of an inch.
Lake and northern Cook counties could also see some icing early Saturday morning before temperatures quickly rise above freezing.
Cloudy, damp and chilly conditions are expected for the rest of the day with periods of rain across the entire area. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible by late afternoon or evening mainly south and east in northwest Indiana. Areas south of I-80 could see temperatures in the mid-40s and as high as the mid-50s in the late evening.
Snow showers likely will develop overnight into Sunday morning, but no accumulation is expected.
