Wednesday’s wet and windy weather washed out roadways for morning commuters, but drivers might have something more to worry about because roads could get icy overnight.
The steady rain flow is expected to taper off by the afternoon hours with areas accumulating up to an inch of rain, according to NBC Chicago meteorologist Andy Avalos.
Morning temperatures will remain in the mid-to-upper 50s but will fall to the low 40s by late afternoon with wind gusts between 15 to 25 mph.
Temperatures will cool significantly in the evening hours as overnight lows will drop into the mid-to-upper 20s inland, but only fall to the mid-30s closer to the city. Some locations where readings fall below 32 degrees could see patchy black ice forming, Andy Avalos predicts.
The chance for rain won’t disappear Thursday. Isolated showers are possible.
