Midway International Airport

Travel Website: Midway Ranked as Worst Airport in America

The airport finished in 50th place in a ranking of the 50 busiest airports in the country

A popular travel website has ranked Chicago’s Midway International Airport as the worst airport in the United States.

According to the website The Points Guy, Midway is the lowest-ranked airport among the 50 busiest travel hubs in the United States. The ranking, which takes into account elements like amenities, accessibility, and on-time flights, puts Midway at the very bottom of the list.

“Midway only has one lounge, and a relatively bare-bones smattering of restaurants and other services despite a $75 million renovation,” the website said. “(It’s) not all that convenient to downtown Chicago for an airport that’s actually within the city.”

The website says it put a stronger emphasis on the number of lounges and other amenities in this year’s ranking, and also cited the airport’s poor record of on-time flights in its ranking. A total of 33 different criteria went into the rankings, according to the website.

Chicago’s other airport fared better, but didn’t crack the top half of American airports. O’Hare International Airport finished in the 30th position in the ranking, checking in just behind Cincinnati, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The top airports in the country were mostly in the western part of the United States, with San Diego, Phoenix Sky Harbor, and Portland International rounding out the top three. Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Airport and Sacramento International Airport also cracked the top five.
