Wintry Mix Could Make for Dangerous Roads on Busiest Travel Day

As commuters hit the roads for what is expected to be the busiest travel day for drivers this holiday weekend, road conditions could be dangerous.

A wintry mix is expected across the Chicago area as temperatures drop during the evening hours.

The precipitation is forecast to be light, but as the drizzle meets colder temperatures, it could freeze, making for a light glaze on area roadways and the potential for slick spots.

The rain will likely develop by late-afternoon Thursday, turning to light showers for the afternoon rush hour. By the evening, icing conditions are possible.

The freezing rain is mainly expected north of I-80 with temperatures ranging from 36 to 43.

Friday could also see wintry mix with smiliar temparatures, while the weekend will see colder temperatures ranging from 25 to 35 degrees.
