Waterspouts Reported on Lake Michigan

The alert included portions of northwest Indiana

Waterspouts have been reported along with showers and thunderstorms over the southern portions of Lake Michigan, officials said.

The spouts were spotted off shore from St Joseph and South Haven, Michigan.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are set to develop throughout the day Tuesday as unseasonably cold air spreads over the warm lake waters and across the Chicago area.

The setup will keep the potential for additional waterspouts to develop throughout the day, mainly in the southeastern portions of Lake Michigan, according to a Marine Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service Tuesday morning.

The alert included portions of northwest Indiana.

The statement also warned boaters to seek safe harbor until the storms pass.

The unseasonably cold weather is expected to bring temperatures to nearly 20 degrees below the average for this time of year.

Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday will also bring similarly unseasonably cool temperatures. Wednesday's high will be around 73 degrees, more than 10 degrees below average for this time of year.

Things start start to feel seasonably normal again by the end of the work week.
