Watch: Rebeca Marmolejo Pays Emotional Tribute to Father at Funeral

Marmolejo was one of two Chicago police officers killed on Monday

At an emotional funeral service honoring the life of fallen Chicago Police Officer Eduardo Marmolejo, his daughter Rebeca delivered a powerful and tearful tribute to her late father.

Reading from a letter she wrote to her father, Rebeca thanked him for having faith in her, and promised to be strong for her family.

"I will try my hardest to be strong for Maddie, Sofie, and mom, and to keep them together just like you did," she said. "I will always push myself, and everything I do will be for you."

Marmolejo's daughter also echoed calls from other speakers for those listening to love their families, and to treasure their time together, just like her father did.

"I have so much to say, but there’s no time," she said.

Marmolejo was killed in the line of duty on Monday when he was struck by a train while responding to a call of shots fired. His partner, Officer Conrad Gary, was also killed.

Speakers at Saturday's funeral service called Marmolejo a humble man who loved his family, and supported them in everything that they did. His daughter echoed those sentiments, and promised that she would continue his legacy.

"Now that you clocked out, it’s my turn to cover the shift," she said. "You will always be my hero, my best friend, and my dad."

Onlookers brushed back tears as she finished speaking, and gave her a roaring ovation when she stepped down from the pulpit.
