You're Not Crazy, There's a Wallaby On the Loose in Indiana

An escaped wallaby is hopping around the woods and farmlands of Northwest Indiana.

The marsupial ran off from a travelling petting zoo near Lowell Wednesday morning, according to the Times of Northwest Indiana.

The owner stopped by Harvest Tyme Pumpkin Patch where he was planning to have a local veterinarian inoculate his emus, ducks and chicken, the paper reports. The wallaby escaped Wednesday morning.

“I doubt that he’s dangerous,” veterinarian Pat Leininger said. “I’m sure he’s scared to death at this point."

Leninger said if anyone spots the wallaby they can caller hat 219-696-6300—but she admits she’s unsure of how to capture it.

Wallabies are a cousin to the kangaroo and are native to Australia. They can grow up to 41 inches in length and weigh more than 50 pounds.

The animal is also nocturnal—so keep your eyes peeled at night time.
