Gambling Bill Vote Expected Next Week: Cullerton

When Illinois lawmakers head back to Springfield for the fall session next week, they could vote on gambling expansion legislation, Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) predicts.

But whether or not the legislation will pass the measure is another matter.

Gov. Pat Quinn last month promised to veto the expansion bill, which would allow slot machines at racing tracks. The bill also includes five news casinos in the state, including one in Chicago, which Quinn has indicated he could support.

But there seems to be consensus in Springfield that a gambling bill can't pass without slots at race tracks.

Quinn has offered lawmakers his input on the subject, but there appears to still be no agreement on the issue.
