Chicago police have issued an alert following several brazen armed robberies in the Gold Coast, Lincoln Park and River North neighborhoods.
At least six robberies took place since Aug. 25 from the Loop as far north as 1100 North LaSalle, police said.
In many of the crimes, three to five men approached the victims, and either threatened violence or attacked them and stole their property, police said. The robberies took place at different times throughout the day.
Multiple people told NBC 5 they were alarmed when they heard about the robberies, but not surprised.
“I’m not always worried,” one resident said. “They’re up to no good…that’s not always my first thought. It’s just the necessary caution that you must have when you’re traveling anyplace at night downtown.”
In the crime alert, Chicago police urged people to be aware of their surroundings, and to report any suspicious activity to 911 immediately.
Anyone with information was encouraged to contact Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
