1 Airlifted From Fire at Trailer in Beecher

One person was airlifted with severe burns from a fire at a trailer in south suburban Beecher early Wednesday, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at around 12:02 a.m. in the 2900 block of West Indiana Avenue, the Beecher Fire Protection District said in a statement.

There they found a recreational travel trailer "heavily involved" in fire, officials said. Near the trailer, first responders located a severely burned victim who was then airlifted to the University of Chicago Hospital, according to fire officials.

Further details on the victim, including age and condition, were not immediately available.

Firefighters were then able to extinguish the fire within fifteen minutes, authorities said, adding that the trailer sustained heavy damage and was rendered uninhabitable.

Twelve different agencies responded to or provided resources in battling the blaze, which was fought by 25 firefighters alongside a rescue squad and commanding officers, among others, Beecher fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday morning.
