Burglars Struck Suburban Homes While Residents Slept, Police Say

Vernon Hills police are warning residents to be on alert after several homes were burglarized early Sunday morning.

The burglaries, six in all, occurred while residents were at home and asleep in their beds, according to police. Authorities say that the thief gained entrance to homes through unlocked sliding glass doors and, in one case, an unlocked garage service door, stealing wallets, purses, and other personal items.

The robberies took place in the Centennial Crossing, Stone Fence Farms, and Hawthorn Club subdivisions, police say.

Police got an image of the suspect when he attempted to open a locked door at a home. They describe the man as being in his mid-to-late 20’s, wearing a light-colored jacket and a beanie hat.

Authorities are recommending that all residents in the area check their windows and doors before going to bed at night, and also recommend that residents install exterior lighting on all doors.

Police are also asking for residents with any additional information on the situation to contact them at 847-247-4883.
