Vehicle Plunges Off Bridge Into Construction Zone in the Loop, Injuring 7

A vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver drove off a bridge and into a construction zone early Tuesday in the Loop, according to Chicago police.

The vehicle crashed about 2:25 a.m. in the 100 block of East LaSalle Drive, police said.

Seven people were taken to area hospitals in critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Two 19-year-old women, a 20-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, fire officials said. 

A 30-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to CFD, and a 24-year-old woman was taken to Stroger Hospital. 

Chicago police said six occupants were taken to hospitals where their conditions were stabilized. 

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody under investigation of a suspected DUI, police said. No charges had been filed.
