USPS to Help Illinois Celebrate Bicentennial With New Postage Stamp

The State of Illinois is celebrating its 200th birthday over the coming year, and the United States Postal Service is joining the party.

The USPS announced Wednesday that they will be issuing a new stamp to celebrate the state’s bicentennial, which will officially take place on Dec. 2, 2018.

The stamp features an outline of the state with a rising sun, and has the phrase “Illinois 1818” on the bottom:

The stamp is one of numerous new postage pieces that will debut in the coming year. Stamps honoring Mr. Rogers, Sally Ride, John Lennon, and Lena Horne will all be issued by the USPS in 2018, and other stamps, including stamps honoring STEM education and frozen treats, will also make their debuts.
