Bond was set Saturday at $10 million for a University of Illinois student charged in connection with the murder Friday of his ex-girlfriend.
Officers responded about 11 a.m. Friday to the 1343 Block of North Lincoln in Urbana after the victim’s roommate reported she had been killed by her ex-boyfriend, Urbana police said.
Officers found the 25-year-old woman, who was a student at the University of Illinois, dead in her apartment, police said.
The roommate told police that the victim’s ex-boyfriend forced his way into the apartment and put the roommate in the bathroom. After the ex-boyfriend left the apartment, the roommate, who was not injured, fled the apartment and stopped a person in the area that contacted police.
Mengchen Huang, a foreign national from China, was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m. at her home in the 1300 Block of North Lincoln Avenue in Urbana, according to Champaign County Coroner.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide, the coroner’s office.
Police identified and found the ex-boyfriend through his cell phone. U of I also issued an alert identifying the man.

Yongfei Ci, a 29-year-old man who attended U of I, was found at a motel in the 1200 block of West Anthony in Champaign, police said. He was arrested without incident.
Bond was set Saturday at $10 million for Ci for charges in connection with the murder, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s office website,
Ci, of the 500 block of Elm Street, in Urbana, is expected in court Monday for arraignment.
