Police Respond to Barricade Situation Near UIC

Incident isn't related to the school, according to university website

Police late Tuesday were on the scene of a barricade situation on the Near West Side.

The police Hostage Barricade Terrorist unit responded about 8:35 p.m. to the 1400 block of South Morgan Street, according to preliminary police information.

The nature of the incident was not immediately known, and it was not yet clear if hostages were involved.

Reports indicate a perimeter and media staging area were established.

The situation is located near the University of Illinois at Chicago but is not related to the school, according to the university’s website, which is advising students to avoid the area.

Police remained on the scene at 9:45 p.m.
