UberX Denied Access to Chicago Airports

The popular rideshare service uberX has denied access to pick up passengers from O'Hare and Midway airports in Chicago.

The decision came after the Illinois Transportation Association asked the city to look into what it called Uber's "unregulated airport pickups."

The group claimed uberX drivers were able to avoid paying the airport departure tax that livery and taxi drivers have to pay when picking up customers at the airport.

UberX is a ridesharing service that employs drivers using their own vehicles, and are typically cheaper than taxis.

Uber initially ordered its drivers to use the airport lanes designated for friends and family pickups, but later directed its drivers to cease airport pickups altogether.

Uber's regular taxis and black cars will still be allowed to pick up customers at the airport.

The Illinois State Senate is expected to vote on a ridesharing regulation bill in a few weeks.
