Rideshare Passenger Fatally Shot on Chicago's South Side: Sources

A rideshare passenger was shot and killed while inside a vehicle on Chicago's South Side early Monday, according to police sources.

The 34-year-old man was sitting in a car in the 7400 block of South Stony Island Avenue at around 2:10 a.m. when a tan-colored vehicle pulled alongside and fired shots, according to police.

The man was shot in the neck and head, authorities said, and taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not confirm the fatality and further details were not immediately available.

Police sources said the victim was an Uber passenger, and the rideshare driver drove him to the hospital following the shooting.

"We are saddened to hear of this horrifying incident and stand ready to provide any information to police for their investigation," Uber spokeswoman Kayla Whaling said in a statement. "We extend our thoughts to all those who are mourning the loss of their loved one."

No one is in custody in connection with the shooting, according to police, and authorities continue to investigate.
