One person is dead and another is in an area hospital after they were rescued from the waters of Lake Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
According to Chicago fire officials, the two men were discovered in the water approximately two miles east of Diversey Harbor at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Officials believe that the two men, along with another individual, were approximately miles from shore in a boat when they decided to go for a swim. The group did not drop the anchor on the boat, and as a result, it began drifting away.
One of the men swam back to the boat, while the other two men tried to swim for shore.
The Chicago Police Marine Unit escorted the man in the boat back to shore, whilc the Chicago Fire Department recovered the two other men from the lake.
A 31-year-old man was brought to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A 28-year-old man was also brought to an area hospital, and he is in stable condition ato Illinois Masonic Hospital.
Police believe at this time that the man's death was an accidental drowning.
