Two women were wounded - one fatally - in separate shootings as they sat in their Chicago homes between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to police.
The first shooting took place at around 8:39 p.m. Tuesday night in the 6400 block of South Hermitage Avenue in the city's West Englewood neighborhood, officials said.
A 44-year-old woman was sitting on a couch inside her home when shots came from outside through the front door, according to police.
Authorities said she was shot in the abdomen and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality and further details, including her identity, were not available.
Then at around 1:34 a.m., a similar but unrelated shooting took place in the 11800 block of South Eggleston Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood, officials said.
Authorities said an 80-year-old woman was sleeping in her bedroom on the second floor of her home when shots were fired from outside.

She was struck in the head, according to police, who said she was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious but stable condition. She appeared to be sitting up and conscious in the ambulance.
No one is in custody in connection with either shooting, according to police, who continue to investigate.
